Ever After
Ever After by Jack A.S. Dunce Why do most tales end in ever after? The child in me believed without a doubt In fairies, elves, and hobbits that augur The endless sunshine and rainbows they spout. A life of joy and smiles in perpetual bliss after resolving troubles with a kiss. In the real world, he refused to grow up, Continuing to wear rose-tint glasses And seeing dandelions as buttercups In gardens overrun by tall grasses. And most would pass him up as eccentric -- The fate waiting a hopeless romantic. By chance an errant pebble fell his way That cracked his glasses into a starburst, Clouding his view and turning it to gray, And to the real world he became immersed: The rainbows dispersed into the blue sky; The fairies fled, no more than butterflies. --🏵️-- ©️pgmr 05/30/2025
