Empty I Love You
I say the words, but they don’t land Like echoes in an empty hand He smiles like he always does But I’m just faking what once was I kiss him like it still means more But my heart’s not knocking on that door I whisper "love you" out of fear Not because I want him near He doesn’t see the change in me But I feel it quietly I’m saying empty "I love you"s Like a ghost stuck in the truth Just a habit I can’t break Afraid of the hurt it might create I’m holding on to what we used to be But I’m not who I was, and he's not me It’s cruel, but it’s what I do Saying empty "I love you" He talks of plans we’ll never make I nod along for both our sakes He sees forever in my eyes But I’m just tired of the lies I wish he’d notice how I fade With every promise that we’ve made I want to scream, I want to go But guilt is louder than the no How do you break a heart that trusts When yours gave up on "us"?
