Echoes of what's lost
In vain, I seek to forget, A face that's etched, a memory set, A soul that's gone, yet still remains, A bittersweet, lingering pain. Your smile, a ghost that haunts me, A whispered name, an ache to see, The shadows of what we once shared, Now taunt me, with all that's impaired. Time's passed, yet grief's still raw, The wound's open, the scar won't draw, I yearn to let go, to move on, But memories of you linger, strong. In dreams, I see your fading light, A fleeting glimpse, a desperate night, I reach for you, but you're gone, Leaving me with this hollow dawn. Forgotten would bring peace, they say, But how can I forget the way, You laughed, loved, lived, and left, A void that gnaws, a heart bereft? Your absence weighs upon my chest, A constant ache, an unrelenting test, To forget would be a lie, For in my heart, you'll always reside.
