echoes of pretend cares
Alone I've walked, alone I've stayed, In shadows deep where light has strayed. Now they come, with hollow words, But their concern is never heard. Where were they when I cried in vain, When silence wrapped around my pain? Now they act like they can see, But their touch just poisons me. Their false concern, it pushes deep, Into the wounds I cannot keep. The more they care, the more I break, Each empty word, another ache. I’m pushing back, I’m pulling free, Their kindness only cripples me. I’ve known the truth, I’ve seen the lies, Their care is just a thin disguise. Let me be, let me fall, They never cared, not at all. So don’t pretend, don’t play this game, Your words, to me, are just the same. I’m alone, I always knew, And now, at last, I see it too. Their care, their love, it’s all a show, And the only truth is letting go.
