Echoes of Love in War
The drums of war beat loud and near, Yet all I hear is your voice, clear— A whisper lost in the cannon’s roar, A vow now buried by the score. I held you close before the fight, In one last breath beneath the night, You kissed me soft, then turned away— And I was left in shades of gray. The bloodied fields, a ruthless stain, Red rivers flow, they drown in pain. But in my heart, you stay alive, A memory I must revive. Each step I take on hostile ground, I feel you near, without a sound. Your name is carved into my soul, As battles rage and take their toll. But victory means naught to me If you are gone, and I am free— For love that war has torn apart Is left to haunt the soldier’s heart.
