Echo and Narcissus
I became aware of how people would look at me. They started at my hair and trailed down my face to my arms and torso, to my legs and all the way to my feet. I covered myself, yet still they'd stare. So I went out hunting to avoid them. But they stare in the woods too. I had just shot a deer when I heard rustling and saw two peering eyes. "Who's there?" I called, but only my own words returned. "Come out!" I heard it back again. "How about we come together?" She seemed to agree. A nymph approached, shy and blushing. I knew what was coming. "Do not say it." "Say it?" she asked, feigning innocence. I laughed. "I'll die before you have my body." "Have my body!" We both stared and she ran away. Such a strange girl. I bent down to get a drink but I couldn't help but freeze. In the pond was the most handsome boy. I could not look away, I could not touch, for then he'd vanish. So we simply watched each other. Even when the water ran black, we watched.
