Drifting From The Same Shore
Why are you walking away? Or is it me that's walking away? The distance between us has grown, yet we seem to be exactly where we were independent of each other. We were dependent on each other. We stood still yet drifted apart. And the only force, tugging and chipping away, was time. They say that a man can never step into the same river twice. For it's not the same river, and he is not the same man. Unbeknownst to us, we were changing. Growing, evolving, but, independently. Our dependence was changed, dare I say our priorities had followed. Time never stopped for anyone, but we thought differently. Our love was meant for the past, but I tried to keep giving. Had there been more of the past, then all I could've done was reminisce. Had there been more of the past, the present would not have changed. Had there been more of the past, we would have been hurt harder. For you are not the same river. And I am not the same man.
