Drifted Thoughts
Sometimes, if I think for too long, Reality fades away around me, As if I stop feeling real, And everything just... drifts away. I'll lay in bed at night, surrounded by silence, Staring at every bump and curve in my hand, Trying to convince myself that I'm real. The sound of the world becomes a distant echo, As I'm surrounded by the thoughts that cloud my mind. I'll spend hours trying to convince myself That the world around me is real, Feeling every line on my palms, Every scar on my body, everything that makes me human. I take a deep breath, clearing those thoughts away, Until they're just a distant memory, Covered by new thoughts, Forgetting them until I next start thinking too much.
