Please, don't love me back, If I show you care, tear it apart, From the very start, break my heart. Don't let me grow in your warm embrace, Don't let me sleep holding your hand in the dark place. Don't let your sweet words whisper near my ears, Reminding me of warmth that love endears. For once, I used to feel so low, In empty hallways where cold winds blow. I care deeply, I love truly, But my thoughts are mountains, heavy and unruly. If I show you the world you've longed to see, And make you smile like you’ve never been free, Please, don’t return the favor in kind, Don’t make me seek what I long to find. I don’t want gratitude; it feels so strange, I've never been thanked for the love I arrange. Compliments feel empty, like air in a balloon, My ears aren't used to such a tune. Don’t give me a reason to smile, Let it stay forgotten, buried for a while. Don't gift me gifts; I don't know how to react, It would only highlight what I lack
