Devolution (Brief Monologue)

(Opinion Monologue) ...Or, we may have devolved from some "superior" life form into the humans we are today, where it seems: *Hate is more common than love *Vengeance is more common than forgiveness *Distrust is more common than trust *Selfishness is more common than selflessness *Indifference is more common than compassion *Jealousy is more common than compersion *Selfishness is more common than generosity *Et cetera But, I'd like to think we are evolving and that we are growing and improving: That, in the some two million years since the emergence of Homo Erectus, we have divested ourselves of the more negative aspects of egocentric traits that made us "primitive" and that we are moving up the human scale emotionally and mentally: that we are becoming more sophisticated and refined as human beings, and that we will be ready soon, along with human advacement and growth in technological abilities and capacities, to reach for the stars. But I don't know, are we ready now? (Rhetorical question)
