Déjà vu
Déjà vu by Jack A.S. Dunce It's been a while since I was in this place A series of storms slammed into it The first few shook it right to its base but its foundations held and and did not quit The last one inundated this core undermining the concrete slab 'till it tore The flood's strong current carried me away afloat on drift wood barely with breath dragged by familiar hands back to a bay Asleep since then in a state like death -- a lucid dream deprived of color where my existence, merely titular It was a new moon night when I awoke The world looked fuzzy the first few days like peering through a shroud of gauzy cloak The world for me is a meandering maze with no clear start and no end in sight -- a limbo in perpetual twilight As I again learn to walk on my own, I wandered back to where I was before There's nothing left but a mound of stone -- a cairn to mark a thing long lost in yore Forsaken even by its memory But why am I back in this reverie? ©️pgmr 08/17/2024
