Deeper Roots
I admire how a tree is quiet and still, Standing tall with a steady will. Its roots hold firm in the silent ground, While restless winds move all around. I want to age like a fine, old wine, Getting better as the years align. I want to keep a warmth inside my soul, Like gentle sun that makes me whole. I would rather walk my path alone, With a spirit strong and carved from stone, Than live half awake or hide from view, Like burnt toast acting like something new. This year spoke softly, wise and clear, Teaching me things I needed to hear. Some leaves must fall from every tree, So stronger branches can come to be. For life is growth through loss and grace, Through empty skies and changing space. Those who learn what they must release, Find deeper roots and lasting peace.
