Dear God
Dear God, I don't want to feel the pain. I don't want to hear the rushing waters, I don't want to feel the rain. I don't want to wonder at the thought of what circled down the drain. I just want a simple life — something that's easy to contain, so that my dreams can all come true without a bitter stain. Dear God, I don't want anything to stumble. Please don't make enemies fall. Please don't nourish any thoughts of war. Please don't cause pain at all. If anything should tumble from the hand that holds it all, I wish it wouldn't cause a fuss, as if nothing fell at all. But even still, I'll wait here on Your word — at the altar do I call.
