Dear Drugs
Dear Drugs, I thought you’d be fun. But you took the shine right out of the sun. You drained me left me weak, stole my breath, stripped me of my energy. You taught me one thing: how to run. Run away. Isolate. Forget how to communicate. Skin turned gray. Eyes sunk in. Staring in a mirror I couldnt recognize the person I'd been. How do I get out of this? I want to shed this disguise. Dear Drugs, I depended on you. You promised peace, told me one more line, one more hit, stick that needle spin that pipe and I’d feel nothing. Calm. Free. You said I had nothing to lose just my life. I don’t know why I stayed. Why I wasted so many days. But I know the truth now I am to blame. And still, God gave it all to me. Four beautiful babies. A life rising from poverty. I know I’m chosen. Because God uses the broken. And I’ve never not been in pieces. Dear Drugs, I’m done with you. not ever again. You lifted me up just to drop me down. Kept me dangling two inches from the ground, feeding me lies so I’d keep coming back. You said there was no happy ending. That I didn’t deserve that. You whispered to me, all I had was you. That no one would save me that I was the enemy. Unloved Hopeless. Unworthy. But none of that was true.
