daydreamer's disease
Wood bark under my tongue and a fistfull of firelight. Pinpricks of red-white through the night sky, vibrant teal and murky maroon. Fireflies burn against the pavement. If I close my eyes hard enough, I can feel cornhusks under my fingers. Harder, and I can hear my mom forgive me. Gravel roads stretch miles long and I need to open my eyes . I've caught a daydreamer's disease, and it's songwriter's torment. Always too many words to write and not enough of them to move on. I can praise the imagery all I like. Red white dark teal sky fireflies and none of it will make them want me back in their arms.
