Dark and light
I've lived a long time in this darkness, I've known flashes of light, And I know it's intoxicating and vibrant warmth, In the brief moments of the dappled light, I've looked to the skies and thought, How wonderful to be alive, To see the faint glimmer of stars on a warm humid night, To sit under the glow of the evening sun, Stretched across the sky in magnificent hues of crimson and pastel violets and coral pinks, To feel the comfort of an ordinary day, spent with a book and a plate of warm food, To be loved with such gentle live and smiles and chuckles, Life is such a dichotomy, How I desperately wish to live even as it squeezes the life out of me, The more I sit in the dark, the more I crave light and joy and warmth, But it is difficult to hold onto hope, When the world seems so eager to bury my soul, Ah, to dance and sing and laugh in joy, Despite knowing that more often than not, the world delights in building a bonfire of dreams and wishes, The dichotomy of life, indeed, And so I suppose, Fragile mortal I am, I wait in this darkness, For the glorious light to come sweeping in and perhaps stay a bit longer, For as time and fate dictate, This shadow, too, shall pass.
