Damn them
Damn them. Damn the coldness that lives in people’s chests, the laughter they spit out when they know they’ve hurt something pure. Damn the way they walk away as if suffering doesn’t follow them. They don’t know what they did. They don’t know what they killed. They don’t know that you were not “just a dog.” You were loyalty with legs, joy with a heartbeat, love without question. And here I am, burying you with hands shaking so hard I could barely touch the soil. Regretting every moment I wasn’t home, every second I couldn’t protect you, every sign I didn’t see. I hate that you died in pain. I hate that your last breaths were spent alone with poison twisting inside you. I hate that someone looked at you, and still chose cruelty. Humans still chose to be humans.
