Cupid's Malediction
In shadows deep where nightmares creep, Where light dares not to tread, There dwells a beast of broken hearts, A hunter of the dead.No cherub sweet with arrows bright, But a wretch with claws and chains, His wings are torn from lovers' scorn, His eyes a field of pain.He draws his bow with sinew threads, Each arrow dipped in woe, And sends them through the hollowed chests Of those who seek to know. What love is this that tears the flesh, That twists the mind in dread? A curse, a blight, a venom's kiss, Where all who touch it bled. His arrows carve through tender souls, Their cries a twisted song, And as they fall into his thrall, They rot where they belong. No gentle hand, no lover’s clasp, Can soothe the wounds he sows, For in the dark, his cruel mark Is all that ever grows.Their hearts decay in frenzied beats, Their minds unthreaded seams, And in their sleep, they fall too deep Into his realm of dreams. There is no peace in Cupid’s grip, No solace in his gaze, For love in him is but a sin, A pyre set ablaze. So tremble now, you hearts aflame, And pray his sight's denied, For should he come, your soul is done— To him, all love has died.
