Courage to Love
He looked at me smiling and cleared his throat as if he was about to bestow some great wisdom to me. After clearing his throat he said " And what has love done for you, how has it made your life better?" I smiled then as well already knowing the answer. All those nights looking at my ceiling thinking and asking myself what I really wanted. Now a gay carpenter and electrician coming from a Roman catholic family I was ready. With that smile I looked at him and said "Your clever no doubt, but you'll never be wise or know another's heart, anothers true embrace. You see compassion breeds courage and courage breeds wisdom." I told him, " Be clever and die bitter. I'm gonna have courage & love." I stood up from that table and walked away that day knowing I would never be him, I would never be that and let my heart turn cold out of fear.
