Conceal
As a child I was always taught That vulnerability Was something to be fought When I was down I had nowhere to go I was constantly forced To put on a show I forced myself To always wear a disguise, Because I was afraid of what I was going to find When I looked into their eyes But it’s impossible, Especially at my age, To constantly keep my emotions Restrained and caged It will be so sudden, When on a stormy night, I no longer find myself Filled with the need to fight My emotions come rushing Hitting me right where it aches I feel a rising in my chest As something in me awakes But this time I don’t push it away I do something different, And instead I let it stay So here I sit Alone in the dark While the rain pounds on the roof And my feelings begin to embark They start to begin A journey of their own Trying so desperately To take me home But, once again, As I feel myself begin to let go Light enters my room And I can’t let it show
