Cloud Candy
Cat Marcy Rain Nehrkorn October 16, 2007 Cloud candy dots the sky, rainbowed trees painted on the ground. A flock of Canada Geese call to all the souls in the vee. A blue heron stilly listens for a sound of fish swimming close by, standing in the lilly padded shallow water all around. Feeding time now and then time to find shelter for the night, for one, for a flock, on the land, in the water, in the sky abound. The night comes upon the eastern horizon beginning the voyage into the west to darken the sky, shielding its young creatures from harm and alarm, bringing rest to the weary and peace to the wary. Creature to creature, mother to young, closeness warms the youngsters through the cool night untill the rising sun. Light begins to fill the sky falling on the opening flowers, the parents keep their young ones with them through the daylight hours. One parent goes along alone in search of food and starts the journey home to mate and young, and all the his voice sets his territory, as his notes are sung. He meets the other parent and they walk with their chics, to the river, taking a drink of water and jumping onto the river surface, joining with the others, the day is good the night is good, life is good
