By the Dike
The waves hum low, a gentle song, Breaking on the dike, steady and strong. Each crash a heartbeat, each splash a sigh, As gusting winds weave through the sky. Her head rests soft upon my shoulder, The world grows quiet, the night feels older. Her fingers cling as if to stay, Like tides that fear to drift away. The wind whispers secrets, ancient and free, While waves tell stories of the deep blue sea, and in that moment, still and true, The dike held us close, -- just me and you.
