Burdening Sands
I walked through halls of spines, To embrace the cold of night, Blind to the glow of the light, While time locked away the wrong and right. I swam across dunes of the past, Hoping my strength would last, Yet my weary heart, at last, Yielded to the ghost of what we had. The silence screams through empty halls, Burning portraits upon the walls, The gall of painting over it all Left only traces in white and black. I buried my secrets beneath the sand, Among the ashes of our heart, Carried their weight across our land, A picture often mistaken for art, Forsaken within the palm of my hand. They say that love is forever, Yet never that pain is the fever That turns warm stone cold, And bright souls gray with age. Till forever no longer feels forever, And tethered hearts are slowly severed, By the oath of all we longed for—and lost.
