Bonsai
Today The bonsai stands Sentinel near my front door Guarding the house From all my enemies Real and imagined Holding onto tiny Moments of time With its perfect branches Silhouetted against the wall Imprinting shadows Further still Blocking out color Holding on to the light Hopelessly waiting Strange little warrior That it should so solemnly stand So reverential even Now that the world Has gone to hell It has seen hundreds of years But still It stands Not affected by events Just human history I suppose Nothing at all To be concerned about Aloof in the world And Alone
