Blind and Deaf
Sometimes I wish to be blind To not see the tears I've cried To not witness the shattered dreams To not behold the heart that's lost its beams To not see the faces of those I've loved Their smiles, their laughter, their hearts turned to dust above To not see the memories we made The moments we shared, the love that's been brutally betrayed And sometimes I wish to be deaf To not hear the whispers of your deceit To not listen to the lies you've told To not be pierced by the words that cut like a cold, ruthless knife To not hear the silence that follows pain The emptiness that echoes, the heart that's lost its refrain To not hear the whispers of my own heart The doubts, the fears, the tears that never depart, the screams that are silenced But alas, I am neither blind nor deaf I see and I hear, and it cuts me to the bone, this grief I wish to escape, to flee from the pain But it follows me, a shadow that remains, a constant reminder of the love that's been slain So I'll hold on to hope, a glimmer of light A chance to heal, to mend the tears of night
