Bittersweet
I let you go, Not because I stopped loving you, But because I loved myself enough To walk away from what was breaking me in silence. They told me I did the right thing That letting go was brave, But no one warned me How it would feel to watch you fall into her hands right after leaving mine. She liked you when I still held your heart, And maybe you liked the way she waited. But I was the one who stayed, Even when I was scared, even when I was shaking. Now she gets the laughs I used to hear, The chats at midnight I used to read. She gets the part of you that I helped grow, And I get nothing but the echo of your name in my chest. I gave up a love I wasn’t ready to lose, Because I thought you’d find your way back. But instead, You gave her the ending I never got. It wasn’t a matter of love, but of sacrifice. I had to leave him behind because my love for him would never outweigh my love for my faith and my family. And as much as it broke me, I knew it was the only choice that would keep me whole. Love was the law and religion was taught.
