Birds of Prey
The birds screech and shriek An endless murmur left on repeat They serve as a warning For everyone hoping and begging Wishing to leave 'The world is a dangerous place You'll become a castaway' 'They'll hate you and berate you, expect them to betray you' But the sun beats brightly against the window begging to be let in It brings a gentle warmth one that Cascades around every entity And the stars, always so beautiful as they engulfed the night sky aware of every misdeed but never consumed by greed They always listen thoughtfully The embodiment of cordiality I always feared the dark I feared many things I feared the cardinals and crows Every blue jay and hummingbird Every noise and sound Each footstep and pound But when the night came I was less afraid The moon was quiet and friendly It always kept me safe I wish the day never came... I want to leave To feel the breeze I want to watch every blossom bloom and every boat sail across the salty sea I want to leave, to feel the warmth of the sun and the chill of the night I want to feel the soft ground beneath my feet To stare at every star, and count every galaxy I want to see so much more of the world, More than the world behind my door
