Behind the Wall
I’ve seen those eyes a thousand times, A spark that tempts, a silent rhyme. I catch my breath, but hold it tight, Afraid to speak, afraid to fight. Each time I fall, I fall alone, A heart that’s bruised, a love unknown. I hide behind a wall of fear, Too scared to let them near, too near. I used to trust, I used to dream, But now it’s safer to just seem— Unmoved, untouched, and out of sight, Though inside, I burn so bright. I’ve learned the cost of letting go, The hurt that swells, the scars that show. So I stay quiet, play the part, And guard the pieces of my heart.
