Behind the Mask
Heartless, cruel faces wait in shadows, biding their time to strike. Inside, their faces are scowled yet unseen by the innocent. Promises pour from their lips like water gushing from a broken pipe, their voices too soft when being expressed Like whispers meant to soothe a crying child. They bring forth polished intellect, plans to avert looming catastrophe, yet behind closed doors corruption is drafted on the people’s tax. Voting is the citizen’s right, but experience remains the best teacher. When leaders are chosen by tribe, by bribes, by foreseen corruptible gain, it is a betrayal, a wound to the nation’s heart. The high level of being unpatriotic does not sometimes dwell in not voting but rather in the choice of voting based on tribe and bribe.
