Back and Forth with Death
Death waits in the yard For your decision, Father Will you allow him, To join his family? The ones up in heaven? His heart isn't the same His bones ache and creak His mind plagued with memories Will you allow him ,Father, To rest finally? Family surrounds him Sorrow fills the air Tears fall from those known Will you allow, Father, For this family to stop waiting? They cry not knowing When he will go They know he is suffering Yet they still fight for him Will you allow, Father, Death to take him? You do understand Father Don't you? Time is causing them to suffer They just wish for it to be over Though they'd never admit it His lover sits and crys Condolences given He was know by many Yet where are they now He can only sit and listen For he can no longer move I see Death, Father He stares through the window He waits under that old rickety tree He waits for his breathing to stop For his heart to quit beating Won't you wait a little longer, Father? His lover needs him now For her mother is dying Who will hold her at night? Surely not me Does Death ever get tired of waiting? He has to witness the tears And the grief And the pain Do you not try to help, Father?
