Swaroopa was looking out of the window, pondering deeply, her thoughts lost in the air. She had lost one of her legs in a major accident that had taken place a year ago. Now, she was confined to a wheelchair. As she could not cook or clean her home, her husband, Shekhar, hired a cook-cum-maid. So, she did not have much work other than watching TV, talking to the cook, and speaking with her kinsfolk on Sundays or in the evenings. Slowly, she was slipping into depression. She remembered how she had once been an active and confident teacher who happily enjoyed both her family and her job. But after the accident, everything changed. Her life looked meaningless. She had almost given up, but just as darkness gives way to dawn, her life too began to show signs of hope. One day, she came across a competition for writing short stories, poems, and articles. She decided to participate. She completed all the formalities and started to write. She wrote and wrote until her hands ached, yet she did not stop. Her spirits were high and her determination soared in the sky. After finishing her work, she waited impatiently for the results to be announced, with a curious bosom and hopeful eyes.
