As She Reads
Wounded was her heart, nearing it's final beat. Slowing, surrending, the waves of life beginning to settle, without a goodbye. Each pulse fed sorrow through youthful veins replacing the blessings of innocent dreams. Tears flowing from eyes that never witnessed pain, dry into memories that will never fade away. Delicate fingers pressed together, forming a veil to shelter her from the world that showed no care. Palms that once held another's hands now empty and cold. She could almost feel the radiance of those she had lost, still holding her hands. Promises once made while in the trance of a August moon, now just a faint echo, drowning under the voices she hears that want her to give up. Sitting on the mattress edge, for her, it was the precipice of life. All time stretched from her smile and out into eternity, beyond shadow and light. Will she ever bring the stars down to her again? Seconds stretched into years, she could feel time, its tangible radiation slithering around her skin. Wanting to run, escape, but could only stare into a picture, wanting to find the words, wishing this was just a dream.
