As if you were never here
I can’t tell if you were ever real. It doesn’t feel that way. I’ve forgotten who you are. Our photos seem like fiction, as if I dreamed you into being. And so I feel — as if you never were. You don’t feel real. But my love for you does. Is it the distance? What if you were only a shadow passing through my life? You’re here — and yet you’re not. I don’t know. It simply feels as if you never were.
