Dunce Both good samples of one of their kind They were big and with muscles throughout These were two that couldn't be in a bind They're the champ in their domain, no doubt The dog, Argus, was black and light brown He was black in the muzzle and ridge, His flanks, light brown, but black down A pure shepherd, he'll run a rope bridge The cat, Liksi, was white with a patch on one eye that was blackish in tinge He's composed and not the kind to latch When he came, where he went; his own hinge These two never had contact at all The dog stayed in a cage or on chain Free to roam, the cat skirted the stall At times strutting too close which caused strain Big dog Argus was out on a chain for a few hours, he walked round his cage His transfers were without hitch, quite plain The tease, Liksi, would not dare engage One day, Argus', by chance, got away The tight grip of his keeper just slipped At once, Argus ran to romp and play From one post to the other he zipped In a sudden, spry Argus stood still Then got down to a half crouch stance Head held low but on straight like a bill; Both ears erect, tail tense; set to advance On his sights, the oblivious cat On the driveway, poor Liksi was
