anxiety
anxiety breathes down my neck like a dark presence holding me in the corner of my room. it lays behind me as the earth spins on its axis, day and night. we lay together, but this dance is not a peaceful one, it's a long, dreadful, and painful battle. A battle in which I am always the losing body, succumbing to his ideas. at night he keeps me up, making me think about all the things a mere human shouldn't have to. when will I die? what it would be like. he terrifies me, filling my body mind and soul with fright. during class, the time ticks until the bell. what if this is your last day? he asks. and reminds my body of the everlasting terror it will always know. at times, he forgets to say "hello", but when he remembers is when it's the worst. he pops in for a visit on a random Sunday night. it's hard to breathe and my vision is blurring on the edges, but this is a part of life, right? living in fear of what's to come. he is me and I am him. we are one together, but even as I die, anxiety will live on. he will destroy other's lives just as he has destroyed mine.
