Almost something
We laugh like there’s no line to cross, like nothing here is gain or loss, your voice so close, your eyes so kind, you leave a quiet storm in mine. You lean on me without a thought, like this is all it ever ought, two friends who share a space, a day, but I feel more than I can say. Your every touch feels out of place for something labeled safe as “space,” yet you don’t see the way I freeze when you get close so easily. I wonder if you feel it too, or if it’s just the way you do, if I’m just one of many names inside your world of simple things. Because to me, it’s not that small, it echoes loud, it fills it all, each little thing you say or do becomes a different kind of truth. I know the odds are never fair, your heart’s not built to meet me there, you walk a road I can’t pursue, no matter how I look at you. And still I hope, though hope feels wrong, like holding breath for far too long, a fragile wish I can’t dismiss, that maybe you could feel, this. But if you never turn my way, if this is all it gets to stay, I’ll keep it hidden, soft and blue, this almost something I have for you.
