All That Is, Is Never Enough
Through the deepest of nights, Dark dreams drift across my mind— Of a captain, alone on watch, While seagulls scream their ghostly songs. So much still worth fighting for, Yet so much suffering left to bear. Who would find joy Standing here, beside me, now? All that is, is never enough. All that once was true Is now forgiven— Lost in the mist of early Sunday light. The ravine along my path Feels like a mountain too far. If I could choose again, I’d have already gone. The beauty I once lived Is what keeps me standing still— Not because I want to, But because I must. Once I sang, full of courage, Now it’s faded, like steam from the land. What remains is only air— Invisible, and stained. I will always have to miss it. That is why my future is gone. But then comes a homing dove, Carrying a single, saving word: It will be okay. But... All that is Is never enough.
