A Test of Love
For two day you teased, a story spun, A rumor whispered, a game begun. You told me you’d heard, from someone unseen, That I had another—though I'd done nothing unclean. We talked, as usual, morning to night, Though doubt’s shadow lingered, dimming the light. You tested my heart, watched what I’d do, To see if I’d fight, if I’d hold on to you. When I was away, my phone in the dark, I thought of you waiting, that teasing spark. Hours passed slowly, but still, I’d explain, My truth repeated—yet met with disdain. You questioned again, eyes fierce, face set, And all I could feel was worry and sweat. I begged you to stay, my voice soft and true, Afraid I might lose the whole world in you. And then you laughed or smiled, the test was done, You’d only wanted to see if I’d run. But my heart was raw, as tears fell like rain, Soft with relief, yet tender with pain. I love you, I’d say, no matter the trial, Through games, through doubts, through every denial. For even in jest, my love stands strong, With you in my heart, where it’s always belonged.
