A Street Dog’s Truth
Today they smile and call my name, Tomorrow they pass, not quite the same. One day their hands are warm and sweet, Next day they throw stones at my feet. Today they feed and stroke my head, Tomorrow they’re gone, no word is said. They chase their dreams, they run ahead, Forget the tail that once they fed. Some take my photo, make a show, For likes and praise the crowd will know. Some toss me crumbs, then turn away, Like I was never there that day. To them I’m just a coin to spin, Heads for love, tails for sin. They never see my faithful heart, They never care it breaks apart. God made me same as He made man, But now I doubt if that was His plan. For in this world so cold, so vile, Love feels like a lie in a smile. And when my tired eyes close one night, No one will care, no one will fight. Just one more stray gone from the street, Where love was a lie and hunger my treat.
