A Sorrow Home The land of the brave, Where the sun meets the sky A silent killer lurks, Hiding in the shadows, night A scourge that plagues the nation, A cancer that eats Into the fabric of society, A stain that cannot be beat. It's a sorrow home Called gender-based violence, A crime so foul A violation of human rights, A sin so profound It knows no boundaries, No race, no creed Affecting women, children, And the vulnerable, indeed. Physical, emotional, And sexual abuse Are the weapons of choice, Used to inflict and subdue The victims are left scarred, Both in body and mind Their lives forever changed, Their dreams unfulfilled, u They find, Left in a sorrow home. The perpetrators are often Those who are supposed to protect Fathers, brothers, husbands, And friends, yet, they neglect Their duty to provide love and care Instead, they bring harm, And they show no remorse, they dare. The reasons for this violence Are complex and varied Poverty, inequality, and A lack of education, they are But one thing is clear, It is a choice, a decision to harm A choice that can be made, A choice that can be disarmed Why do we act so unaware?
