A Sinner's Reckoning
I rise from dust, hands bound in shame, A sinner's heart, scorched by flame. The trumpet’s wail splits earth and sky, I face the Judge, no place to hide. My soul trembles, memories rise, Each buried sin now fills my eyes. Feet that wandered, hands that lied, Every secret I tried to hide. A Book of deeds before me laid, Each line I feared, each price unpaid. Pages blackened, heavy and deep, No prayer to save, no plea to speak. I watch the pure, in robes of light, While I am cast in endless night. Tears turn bitter, cries grow cold, My heart is weighed, my fate unfolds. "Oh, send me back!" my spirit cries, But mercy’s gate now seals the skies. In shadows deep, I stand alone, A life of sin, now carved in stone. The ground rejects me; the heavens close, Nowhere to run as my anguish grows. My eyes meet flames that leap and roar, A dreaded path I can’t ignore. Chains await, unbreakable, tight— A sinner’s end, lost to the night.
