A Role Play
A Role Play by Jack A.S. Dunce Admittedly, I came in very late. I wavered on whether to come or not. Was I allowed to stand before your gate? It seemed to me to be such a longshot. I couldn't quite remember your invite, Doubting if I indeed received any. I chose to come though, just to be polite; The threads binding us, though frayed, were many. When I arrived, you handed me a mask With horns and fangs -- a menacing red face, To act a role I was cast in and tasked, A sort of intermission to showcase. You took the mask for who I was for sure, Convinced that in sheep's clothing I was clad-- The villain they're trying hard to conjure. So I owned it, turning into big bad. And yet, I took point blank all of the shame; I saw no point evading all the blame. --🏵️-- ©️pgmr 07/15/2025 A take on : "If someone is treated as a villain long enough, they may eventually play the part, not out of malice but exhaustion."
