A Passing Day (Canto VI)
A Passing Day by Jack A.S. Dunce Canto VI: The Walk Back I raised my jacket's hood over my head And pulled the zipper fully up my neck, Affording some protection from the rain While still wholly immersed in all of it. I trudged along retracing back my steps Through the down pour and fast pooling puddles. The gravel crunching under each footstep; The smell of petrichor filling the air. The rain had petered out when I emerged From the thickets unto the beaten path, That dared me for another run at it. My body longed to go; my heart said no. I did my heart's desire and kept walking Enjoying every footfall as it fell, The sun's warm touch, the song of rustling trees, The flowers' fragrance -- the moment in time. I was out for a run before sunrise, And I sat on a bench with the sunset. --🏵️-- ©️pgmr 01/20/2025
