A Passing Day (Canto II)
A Passing Day by Jack A.S. Dunce Canto II: The Flower I walked awhile to catch a short breather And took a look at a lone red blossom That caught my gaze with her subtle wonder -- amidst bare twigs, she bloomed by her lonesome. As though consumed by some drunken stupor, I mindlessly went a little closer To feed a nascent need for her splendor, A yearning deep inside an admirer. At first, the sight of her contented me: To watch her sway in the whispering winds, And relish beauty by letting her be. In her presence, the world I left behind. I fell into the flame as the moth did -- Possessed with a mad urge to claim a prize. I reached for her as would a grabby kid And tried to pluck her for my own devise. In my blind haste, I got caught in her thorn, Cutting more than skin deep into my hands. I flinched with pain; she fell into the bourn. I watched her drifting into the wetlands. ©️pgmr 12/31/2024
