A Pair of Headphones
In my years of life, I've had a myriad of experiences. I've lived and loved. I've explored, I've known the warmth of another's heartbeat upon my own. I've dreamt of worlds that had colors to them my own mind couldn't fathom. I've woken from nightmares that left me in sorrow and fear. I've experienced something new. Well, a few. It's because of you. I'll give one or two. I've been comforted by the sounds of a fan. Blowing in the eve to help me sleep. A TV with a cartoon or show. The sound of a washing machine in the distance. Anything but the deafening silence. But I couldn't do it with music. The lyrics leave my mind in wake, motivating new thoughts like I'm being punctured by knives. And the wounds left is simply restlessness to feel in the morning. I found, with you, something new. I can listen to a tune. I can listen to you. You are not music to my ears, you house the orchestra of my mind, you do. A soothing opera I find in your voice alone, of which I pursue. I've found that I can finally wear them, it's true. A pair of headphones, tuned to you.
