A Hero's Goodbye
I’ve dreamed of the uniform, the march, The army calling me to something larger than myself. But mama… mama cries. Endlessly. I saw her in the doorway, with trembling hands, eyes red, Crying into a silence that felt too heavy to hold. “Why must you go?” she whispered, Like her voice could tie my feet to home. And I broke down… quietly. Because I wanted this life so bad, But not at the cost of her smile. So I held her face in my hands and said, “Mama, listen to me… I’ll fight to come back to you. I’ll hold on to every breath like it’s your name I’m calling. And if fate ever writes a different ending for me… Please don’t let your tears drown your strength. Don’t cry too long for me Because I didn’t fall in vain. I stood for something… I became something. Your child didn’t just leave I became a hero in a world that needed one.” But even as I said it, Her tears didn’t stop. She held me even tighter, Like love alone could win this battle. In a moment I thought about staying, but duty waits for now one. So I dusted my shoes, and walked away slowly. Each step heavier than the last. Because I wasn't just leaving home… I was leaving the only heart That ever beat for me before I knew how to fight.
