A Final Letter, A Fading Hope
I love you still, though silence stretches wide, A chasm deep where spoken words once died. I trace your ghost within my waking thought, Of what could be, had genuine chance been sought. A queen you'd be, enthroned within my core, And with your will, a king, forevermore, Would I have reigned within your gentle breast. Is it too late now? Or did I fail the test? Do you believe I'm simply not good enough? I remember telling you, through every harsh rebuff, That I would never give up on you, a vow so true. But now, the air grows thin, the path obscure, I think it's best, to tell you, for sure, That I have finally given up the fight. I see so clearly, in this fading light, That I was forcing what could never bloom, Pushing against an inevitable, silent doom. No more. This is my final letter to your soul, The only one, to make my spirit whole. The last true breath of what my heart had kept, A love unchosen, while the world just slept.
