A BURDENED, BEAMING SMILE
The dress you wear is lovely and bright. Underneath it is darkness. You hide your plight With such disarming finesse. How do you harbour that darkness? How does it not consume your light? A flicker of the sun and I drown myself in sadness; God's mercy immediately escapes my sight. I am stronger, at least I tell myself I am. I flex my muscles only in the light of the day. Your strength powers the whole scene: the lighting, the curtain; all with one good arm. This marvels me, humbles me...I don't know what to say. I see your hidden ache, I know it because it quietly lingers beneath your glow. Yet, I'm not sure how to help, Not even sure if I can. But I honour the courage you carry, The light you guard even on the darkest days. So I lift you in my heart to the One Who strengthens trembling hands And keeps every hidden battle in His sight. He sees the burden behind your beaming smile, And He is near to strengthen you mile after mile.
