A Body That's Left Behid
**Time of death, 3:04 a.m.** A body lies cold, no soul left inside, It’s just another day, nowhere to hide. I’m used to the dark where shadows play, Where lives slip away, like part of the day. I try to heal; that’s what I do, To help the fallen, to see them through. For those wronged by fate, I give my best, To fight for hope, to bring them rest. But I’m just human, tired and worn, Searching for peace where walls are torn. In a quiet hall, I try to breathe, But then I hear a sound that won’t leave. Footsteps come closer, someone’s there, And with each step, grows a feeling of fear. A figure emerges, a threat in the night, A predator who turns calm into fright. He grabs my hand, his grip like steel, I fight back hard, but the struggle is real. In his eyes, there’s a hunger I see, To him, I’m just a body, not me. I look around, but no one’s near, I’m trapped in his hold, consumed by fear. As pain takes over, I wonder why, Will all I’ve done just fade and die? Will I be just another name lost in time? Or will justice rise, and right this crime? All I’ve worked for, all I’ve tried, Will it vanish, or survive the tide? Or will I be a body that’s left behind?
